Yellowbelly Slider

I was really excited to catch turtles because we previously were unsuccessful getting them in the traps!! When we finally did catch some they turned out to be Yellowbelly sliders (Trachemys scripta scripta) I currently own one so I was quite excited to learn more about it. The sliders have a large yellow patch behind the eye and its plastron has circular markings on the forepart of the shell. They have vertical strips on "seat of pants," and narrow yellow strips along the front surface of forelegs. We counted the rings on the carapace to determine its age. Turns out this little guy was about 20 years old! (Patrice Rookard, SC)
