Herpetology Class Mascot!

In personal opinion, our herpetology class mascot should be the beautiful and deadly eastern coral snake, or Micrurus fulvius. With classes that strictly focus on herpetology not being as popular or well known in the undergraduate programs of colleges or universities, I feel that the eastern coral snake is perfect due to its bright and well-known coloration that wards away predators. As humans, we are fascinated by the bright coloration of this venomous snake when experiencing it in the field or at a local facility, which is the kind of distinguishing feature that herpetology classes deserve. While many people do not find amphibians and reptiles appealing in general, many cannot deny the beauty that some of these brightly colored animals possess. With a coral snake as a mascot, I think it will gather attention and represent the class as an interesting subject that most should approach and learn about. The danger that lies behind the beauty can represent the fact that herpetology class is not for the faint of heart and show that it is a class that will provide a challenge. It is not a class to underestimate, with the same being for those who choose to enroll and complete the course and the professors that teach it. Once you choose to take the class, though, it is very rewarding in the vast knowledge that you learn as a student and person about these animals that are commonly seen as frightening or disgusting. There is more to reptiles and amphibians besides their overall appearance and the folklore that people grow up hearing about, as they are creatures that deserve to be loved, as well as greatly respected in many ways. Also, who can resist this cute face?

Humm, I was gonna suggest using Amphiuma means since we found so many of them and one of them even died for us (sad, sad). But I think you have a point, that it's easier for other people to get interested with something they are more familiar with and brightly colored. However, I'm not so sure about using this venomous one...Might scare people away lol

No question that herpetology students are awesome. Like coral snakes, are you often imitated but never duplicated?
