A few weekends ago, I was working
at the Charleston county Earth Day fair and saw something rather interesting. The
different booths were all about have to go green and protect the planet, but
one had caught my eye about a group of herp species. The Charleston Turtle and Tortoise
Society is a local group dedicated to the protection and education of turtle
species here in South Carolina. The man running the booth spoke about basic
turtle anatomy and common injuries that can befall a turtle. He show the crowd
some of his patients, that he brought, and told us what happen to them and what
the society had done to help. I got the chance to ask him some question about
the work he dose and he told me that the society focus on both the medical and
conservation side of turtle care. He also said that this was one of few groups
in South Carolina that specializes on just turtles. Below is a link to the
Soceity’s website where you can learn more information about what they do.
Also, there is a link where you can sign up to adopt a turtle that they have
rescued. I hope you all will take a look and next time you see a turtle
crossing the road you will help it out.

Would an 80 lb Staffordshire Terrier mix get along with a turtle?... I want to adopt one! That program is so neat!
Thanks for the useful information!
