Eastern Hognose Snake in Texas

So while we were out in the field one of my classmates yelled snake. Another class mate and I jumped in to go get the snake as it was swimming across the creek. When we got to it i tried to grab it with snake hook and it disappeared into the brush. The other classmate found it and grabbed it by its tail and pulled it out. While they were pulling it out they threw it and it hit me in the chest. We got it in the net and identified it as the Eastern Hognose Snake (Heterodon platirhinos).

We caught one on a recent field trip, and it put on a great show playing dead!
