Lizard sighting

ID: Green Anole (Anolis Carolinensis)

Found this lizard at the lab space on the Stono Preserve plantation site.
It has arboreal claws for climbing trees and ridge like features by its mouth.
Characteristics:
- mottled with both green and brown
- arboreal
native species of the southeastern United States
- long tail compared to its body
can change its color from several shades of brown to green or gray, depending on its mood, temperature, and surroundings
Could be confused with bark lizard but the tail is shorter than half its body length on the bark blizzard and the anatomy of the hind limbs on the bark lizards. The claws are a little sharper for better tree climbing ability.

Christina, that’s a cool find! Green anoles are very interesting to look at. I like their pink dewlaps that they use for mating purposes - displaying them to females for reproductive intent. I also found out that they have color changing abilities like chameleons, which, in your photo looks like the lizard is almost blending in with its surroundings. I think it’d be interesting to know some of the sexual dimorphic traits in them! Females lacking the dewlap, color differences, size variation. Nice picture!
