Indian researchers, Zeeshan Mirza and David Raju, have discovered a new species of Hemidactylus gecko from Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh. The species has been named Hemidactylus chipkali and is called the Central Indian Leaf-toed gecko. The species was discovered while the researches were surveying the Satpura Hills in 2014. According to the researchers, the lizard has a "continuous series of seven pored scales above the cloacal opening." This is a way to distinguish this species from the previously described Brook's gecko. The lizard is also closely related to the Treutler's leaf toed gecko.
Overall, I found this discovery interesting. The manner in which the magazine presents the article is very well written. It is meant for the general audience, not just herpetologists. This makes the information easy to follow and understand without a herpetology background.
